Such a long time
Well, summer was a recuperative period after a rather daunting setback in the spring and let's just say I was heart sick for a good long whilel. This fall dealt another professional blow, but more importantly, the universe provided an opportunity to participate in the St. Louis Regional Art Commission's Community Art Institute. I met and worked with wonderful individuals who are all out there trying to make the world a better place and using the arts to work their good medicine. Community really is all about relationships and my heart was inspired and reminded that, while one relationship in one community may be failing, there are so many other positive relationships in a broad spectrum of communities. If I am being non-specific, or elusive, about the details, it is only because I hope to begin again emboldened and re-focused, ever grateful for the reminders that art DOES make an impact, a positive impact on individuals.
To that end, this fall we had our annual faculty exhibit at East Central College and the monsters I began this summer found a home in front of a collaborative chalk board. The images shown are a beginning and an arrival at a simple and fruitful conversation with my audience.
